I have 1500 sq ft house, 3 bdrm 2 bath living with a dog. I have no carpet (all hard floor), no curtain, I have been doing EVERYTHING possibly I can think of to fight the allergy, but I think dust has been my biggest issue. I have Honeywell MERV 13 air filter to change every 4 – 9 months according to the manufacture. plus one thin regular air filter in main vent to change every month, highest quality air purifier, I am constantly dusting and wiping… and still I smell strong dust in the air everytime AC / Heater kicks in. The air duct is almost brand new (less than 3 years old), AC unit is Brand New less than Six months old.

i would change air filter on furnace more often, no matter what manufacturer suggests.
